HERSHEY, PENNSYLVANIA - THE SWEETEST TOWN IN AMERICA!!!
all season, the north catholic wrestling team had two goals. the first goal was to win the district team championship (unfortunately a very talented lasalle team coupled with a very inexperienced north team did not let this happen) and to place in the PIAA STATE wrestling tournament. the PIAA state tournament is with out a doubt the toughest state wrestling tournament in the country. here is what a wrestler must do to get an opportunity to go to the state tournament...
- place in the top 4 of their sectional tournament
- then place in the top 4 of their district tournament
- then place in the top 4 of the southeast pa regional tournament
then a wrestler has an opportunity to go to states. this saturday 11 determined north wrestlers entered the section 8 tournament vying to get through to the district tournament. here are our results.
103 - Mike McCall - 2nd place.
mike ran into lasalle super-freshman casey kent. kent showed a get array of leg attacks which mike had trouble defending. kent secured 4 takedowns to secure a 12-3 win. mike's record heading into the district tournament is 29-6
119 - David Davidson - 2nd place
david ran into his old nemesis matt cimato. david already lost 2 times to the lasalle freshman. david was in on a great leg attack in the first which ended up with one of the best scrambles of the day. unfortunately cimato was able to get his hips up first and get the first takedown. cimato added a quick 2 pt near fall which helped him to a 5-2 victory. david keeps getting close and we feel that he will get him this week of the next. david's record is 27-11
125 -Eric Stankiewcz - 4th place
125 was one of the toughest weights in the tournament. eric went 2-2 on the day losing his 3rd place match 6-0. eric needs to have confidence in this leg attacks and let it loose if he plans on advancing to the regions. eric's season record stands at 22-13
130 - TJ Van Horn - 1st place
tj became the first sectional champion in the history of north catholic. he dominated his opponents winning by fall, tech-fall, and major decision. he only gave up 1 point the entire day. tjs season record is 28-8. he continues to creep up the career win total of 109.
135 - Nick Cancelliere - 5th place
nick wrestled hard all day but came up one place too short. he needs to understand how to win battles and not wrestle like a robot. nick finished his season with a record of 14-15.
140 - Shane Rand - 3rd place
shane wrestled hard all day. shane has been battling a knee injury for the past few weeks which is limiting his low level leg attacks. shane went 3-1 on the day and advanced to the district tournament. we are hoping that shanes knee continues to improve and allow him to wrestle his best in the upcoming tournament. shane's season record sits at 15-12.
145 - Matt Dugan - 1st place
matt wrestled like a man possessed all day. in his final match-up, he totally broke the will of lasalle's nick burns. matt also broke out a sweet tilt this weekend. if he gets that tilt going, he is going to be tough to beat. a state medal is not out of the question. matt's season record sits at 23-3.
152 - Will Trainor - 5th place
will's first varsity season came up one match short on saturday. will is technially a first year wrestler. he showed a lot of heart and determination this season. will's season record ended 12-6.
160 - Kevin Mallon - 1st place
WOW....that's is all you could say about kevin's performance on saturday. he attacked from the start and did not let up for the entire 6 minutes. kevin had a fall, tech-fall and major decision on the day. kevin's performance got him the MOST OUTSTANDING WRESTLER AWARD on the day. Kevin's season record sits at 28-4.
189 - AJ Vizcarrondo - 4th place
189 was also one of the toughest weights in the tournament. aj needs to get better at this setups for leg attacks to be more successful. he basically got hosed in the consolation final match. coach juan and latch almost got the whole coaching staff thrown out of the tournament at the conclusion of this match for arguing with the over-zealous tournament director. ajs season record sits at 26-15
215 - Jeremy Reith - 3rd place
jeremy wrestled a great tournament and finished in 3rd place. jeremy has improved by leaps and bounds this season. he has worked extremely hard and deserves all of the success that he has been having. we feel that if he continues to wrestle hard, he will no doubt make it to regions. jeremy's record this season sits at 17-13
DISTRICT 12 - CHAMPIONSHIPSthe district 12 individual championship will take place this saturday at edison high school. wrestling is to start by 930. come out to support our wrestlers who are trying to become the schools first ever district champion.
